Today was a landmark day - we started classes in Lebou in a new school. 40 new kids have entered the goat project.
It is very exciting we now have 90 kids currently in the regular GKK program, 43 in the literacy branch and about 20 of the gang members who show up regularly. It's amazing to see all that has happened since December 2009 when we started. We do our parts, me on the ground and you contributing prayer and finances. It is a good thing and God gets the glory! Lives are being changed for the better and that is a good thing.
One of the kids came to me on Friday to sell one of his goats because he wanted to branch out and start raising pigs. Very cool stuff, this is what it is all about.
The building in the GKK garden is being used to teach artisans (making baskets etc.), teach electrical and literacy. Again what its all about.
But this afternoon I feel like its one step forward and two back. Someone came in the yard in front of the school and stole the goat I bought in the middle of the day. I don't get it... Then one of the biggest helpers of the goat project - looking after the bucks and some extra does along with his goats gave in to the pressure of the overseer of the land everyone grazes their goats on and sold all his goats. We were given permission to graze a certain piece of land by the owner but the overseer doesn't want the goats there so he burned it. Rather than we rally together he gave up. It's so sad. We had come up with some good alternatives but it was easier to given in than fight for change.
Up and down today I feel like I'm on a roller coaster. Keeping my eyes focused upward!
