I shouldn't complain but I am.

I am tried of having no electricity. It has been over a month since we have had government electricity. I have a generator and batteries but in addition to the cost (over $75/week) to run it 8 hours a day the constant noise is driving me nuts. We have only been running it at night for a few hours to have lights and that saves on the cost and nerves but then its not enough to keep the refrigerator cold. Choices...

One day I will figure out how to get solar panels. The up front cost is the problem but if they keep going like this what I am spending in gas a month would buy 150 watt panel here in country. The other problem with solar here is they tend to be stolen easily. You have to bolt them to your house and even then sometimes that's not good enough.

Enough complaining...

The forage garden is changing rapidly. We have a student from the American University of the Caribbean (where I taught in 06-07) here doing an internship for a month. It is very cool. He is researching, planning and planting.

The fish pond is ready for fish and we are getting some nets so we can block a small part of the river behind Merger so we can try growing fish there. I'm super excited about this. With the right environment they will grow on what is in the water (more difficult for me in my little pool). So for an investment of 10-15 cent/fish in 4-6 months you will have a half to a pound fish that sells for between $1.50-$2/lb. There are risks and problems just like with raising any animal but its going to be fun trying :). Photos next week when I get the fish :).
